Registration of Birth

A. The registration of birth must be done at the Consulate (in person only) within one year of Child's birth. 

B. After registration of birth, it is mandatory to apply for Indian Passport of the Child through CKGS (,

Documents requirements:

  • A copy of birth registration certificate.
  • A copy of Current Indian passports of both parents in original and photocopy of the first and last pages.
  • A copy of the Certificate of Indian Citizenship if acquired by registration/naturalization.
  • A copy of marriage certificate of the parents (if married) 
  • A declaration that the minor child does not hold the passport of any other country.
  • A proof of US Visa Status of both parents: Copy of any one of – Visas on passports (H1B, H4 etc) and the copy of I-94 / Green Card / Employment Authorization Document (Work Permit) / I-797, I-140 or I-20
  • Download the Birth Registration Form  and complete it
  • Original Birth Certificate of the child issued by the local authorities along with a photocopy
  • Notarized Affidavit  of both parents that they have not taken any other nationality for the child
  • Notarized Affidavit (NOC)  of both parents that they have no objection to the registration and obtaining passport for the child

 Fee: US$ 23/- per registration. The fee is to be paid in cash only.

Please Note : Total fee mentioned against each service include fee of US$ 2/- (two) towards Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF). This is only onetime fee for first copy of attestation/first copy of certificate, for subsequent certificate/attestation (if required) no ICWF fee will be charged. 

This service is not available in Mail/Post mode. Both the parents along with Child must need to be present at Consulate during birth registration process.
