Consulate's Outreach Program: Massachusetts

With an aim to strengthen ties with the local Indian Community in Massachusetts, the Consulate organized an outreach program for the Indian community on consular, economic, cultural, banking and tourism matters at Boston and Chelmsford, Massachusetts on March 13 and 14, 2015. Representatives of Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, Bank of India, ICCI, SBI, USIBC, CII, FICCI, Air India Regional Manager and Make My Trip participated in the event.

Besides, the meeting with the Indian Community, the delegation met with various American dignitaries from Massachusetts State, including the Hon'ble Governor Charlie Baker, Mayor of Boston City Mr. Martin Walsh, Congressman Mr. Michael Capuno and Congresswoman Ms Katherine Clark. The delegation was received by these American dignitaries with warmth and great respect.

The Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment, City of Boston, had organized a business luncheon meeting for the delegation members. Around 40 businessmen and officials from Boston region participated in the event from the American side. It gave an unique opportunity to our bankers and industry partners to get some insight of business opportunities for Indian conglomerates in Massachusetts region.

A visa camp and community event were organized on the following day at Hotel Radisson, Chelmsford. More than 170 people participated in the visa camp, where applications for Indian visa, OCI cards and Renunciation certificates were received from the applicants. At the Community event, power point presentations were made by the Consulate and other delegates for the benefit of the public.

The Outreach program provided a platform to the community to know more about the activities of the Consulate as well as other economic houses of India based in New York and Washington.The Community welcomed the idea and requested the Consulate to organize such events frequently.
