Mahatma Gandhi's Punya Tithi

The Consulate General of India, New York, in association with Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, USA observed the 66th Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi\'s PunyaTithi on January 30, 2014.  About 50 guests including teachers, students, journalists and office bearers of the Bhavan attended the event.



Speaking on the occasion,Consul General of India,Ambassador Mr Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay, touched upon various aspects of Mahatma Gandhi\'s philosophy and its continuing relevance in the contemporary world and stressed on the youth to tackle pressing issues in a peaceful manner.



Dr. Navin C. Mehta, President, Trustee Committee, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan briefly spoke about the relevance of Gandhism today and read out the Hindi translation by Padma Shri Dr. P. Jayaraman, of \'Gandhi Panchakam\', a poem written in Tamil by Chinnaswami Subramanya Bharathi in 1919, which touches on Gandhi\'s Philosophy of Truth, Non-cooperation and Non Violence.  
The programme continued with the paying of floral tributes to the Mahatma\'s portrait by the Consul General and Dr. Navin C. Mehta and guests present on the occasion.



A  recital of Gandhiji\'s favourite Bhajans by Mrs. Sanjukta Sen and students of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Music Academy instilled a feeling of peace and serenity in the hearts and minds of all present.
