CELEBRATION OF 146TH BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF MAHATMA GANDHI

The 146th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated on  Friday, October 2, 2015 at 8.30 am at Union Square Park, near Gandhiji's Statue, in the presence of several followers of Gandhian principles, representatives of public sector units, the officers and staff of the Consulate General of India, New York and media persons. The event was organized by the Indian Consulate in collaboration with Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan.

The programme began with offering of floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Statue by Consul General Dnyaneshwar M Mulay and other dignitaries. Addressing the gathering, Consul General spoke about Gandhiji' principles which has relevance in the world today. The other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion were Amb. Vijay Nambiar, UN Secretary General's Special Advisor on Myanmar, Deputy Consul General Dr. Manoj K Mohapatra and Deepak Dave, Executive Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, USA.

The event concluded with a recital of Gandhiji's favorite bhajans by the music academy of the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan followed by floral tribute by other participants of the event under the leading by Mrs. Sanjukta Sen.
