"Celebration of 68th Anniversary of India's Independence, 15th August 2015"

The Consulate General of India in New York, celebrates India's 69th Independence Day. A large number of guests consisting of prominent dignitaries like Consul Generals of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Pakistan besides a large number of community leaders and representatives both from local and Indian community were present.
The Reception began with the singing of National anthem of both India and the United States of America and reading out excerpts of the President's Address to the Nation. This was followed by a short cultural program organized by New Port Mommy Community where kids sang and performed classical Indian dance.
Speaking on the occasion, Consul General, Ambassador Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay welcomed the guests and highlighted the five main objectives of the Consulate - (1) "Democratization of Invitations" which opens the door to all those who are interested in visiting the Consulate, (2) "Cleanliness Drive" to increase efficiency, transparency, digitization and to make the Consulate more welcoming (3) reduction in Consular service complaints (4) Introduction of Media India Lecture Series to open dialogue on India (5) "Outreach Program" - to create a kind of movement to better relations between India and the United States.
The program ended with well-known singer, Shankar Mahadevan presenting a patriotic song followed by cutting of the cake in celebration of this joyous occasion.
