'Maharashtra Diwas Celebration' at Consulate General of India, New York

On the evening of May 2, 2014 the Consulate General of India, New York in association with ‘‘Jai Bharat Dhol Tasha Pathak’’ celebrated the “Maharashtra Diwas” in the Consulate ballroom.

Consul General Ambassador Dnyaneshwar M. Mulay after lightening the lamps to inaugurate the event, informed in his opening remarks about Consulate’s flagship lecture-series “Media India 2014-15” and "State-by-State" aimed at discussing India’s global image, identity, aspirations, role and projection and related themes for mainstream media, University students, youth and second generation Indian Americans.

Consul General also talked about the importance of diverse Indian culture, languages and heritage and requested the gathering to promote Indian culture in USA. Consul General also unveiled the US edition of magazine “Maharashtra Unlimited” (a monthly of Government of Maharashtra for the USA) during the event.

  Dr Vasant Madhavi speaking on behalf of ‘‘Jai Bharat Dhol Tasha Pathak’’ gave the brief about the organisation and introduced the artists. A presentation of heritage of state of Maharashtra was made through various dances which included Lezhim Zhanj, Koli, group dance on Deva Shri Ganesha and dance presentations by Ms Manasi Karandikar.

The evening was made lively by Powada choir, monologue by  Mr Nitin Ashtekar and handicraft exhibition by Ms Megha Vanarase.

The event was attended by approximately two hundred people from different regions of India. The festivity ended with the dinner.
