Subject: Consular Services directly through CGI, New York

The Consulate General of India, New York has taken the following decisions with immediate effect in light of the continued closing of CKGS office due to lockdown in view of Covid-19 pandemic and movement restrictions in several States. PLEASE NOTE: All applications/documents will be received and dispatched by postal method only. No facility for walk-in is available.

(i) Passport: Applicants whose Passport and Visa status is expiring by June 30, 2020 and require passport on emergency basis may kindly send an email to explaining their emergency situation along with their Passport and Visa copy. Once the request has been approved by the Consulate, the applicant will be informed to complete the application process and send the papers by postal mail to Consulate along with return prepaid envelope for further processing.

(ii) OCI: Presently, OCI Cards are under suspension, however, applicants requiring Renewal of OCI can apply through Postal mail directly at Consulate General of India, New York. The applicants have to fill form available at Government of India Website and send the completed application along with supporting documents and fees by postal mail to Consulate along with return prepaid envelope for further processing. The Fee may be paid through Cashier’s cheque or Money Order drawn in favour of Consulate General of India, New York. The fee would be US$ 28 for normal renewal and US$ 103 for Lost/Damaged cases. (iii) VISA: There is continued suspension of all existing visas/e-visas till the prohibition on International air-travel passengers to India is lifted by Government of India. Visa applications will be accepted only after the announcement of resumption of regular commercial international flight.

(iv) Attestation: Miscellaneous consular services shall continue to be accepted only by postal mail until further notice.

2. All applications will be processed only on receipt of complete physical form in all respect with supporting documents and fee at the Consulate. Applicants should factor in that it may take longer and there could be delays in providing above services due to the current Covid pandemic situation. Applicants are requested to write to us at in case they have difficulty in arranging Money Order or Cashiers’ cheque etc. due to Covid-19 pandemic related restrictions.
