The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 2018 Global Museum Leaders Colloquium

Consulate General of India, New York hosted a reception for 2018 Global Museum Leaders Colloquium and its participants at the Consulate on April 20, 2018. Launched in 2014, the Global Museum Leaders Colloquium (GMLC) is an invitational program hosted by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It provides a unique opportunity for museum leaders from around the world to come together for a sustained exchange of ideas and expertise. Twelve to fifteen leaders are invited to participate in the GMLC. The participants spend ten days based at The Met, taking part in an intensive program of meetings and discussions about museum management and strategy with The Met's senior specialists an administrators. The GMLC aims to provide a 360-degree view of current museum practices by using The Met's experts and operations as a springboard for discussion. To date, the GMLC has hosted thirty-nine museum leaders from thirty-four countries on five continents, who remain in active contact as alumni of the program. This year Mr. Rajesh Purohit, Director of Indian Museum, Kolkata was a participant.

2. Mr. Sandeep Chakravorty, Consul General gave the welcome remarks and addressed the gathering highlighting the close relations between India and The Met. Mr. Daniel Weiss, the President and CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other MET members were also present at the reception.

3. Prior to the reception, Mr. Daniel Weiss signed and handed over an MoU for the return to India of the Idol of Durga Mahishasur Mardini belonging to the Chakravarteswara temple, Baijnath, Almora in the presence of Mr. K. J Alphons, Hon'ble Minister of Tourism and the Consul General.
