Honorable Minister for Power Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia visited New York on an official visit from June 29-July 1, 2013. On July 1, Hon. Minister made a keynote address to members of US-India Business Council where he highlighted the great potential of growth in the power sector in India in the next 20 years. He touched upon reforms carried out by the Government recently across the value chain in the power sector, be it generation, transmission or distribution. He invited investments in the power sector across the board, stating that companies in the US should invest in the Indian infrastructure, especially power, so as to be part of the India growth story. On bilateral cooperation, he said that both countries can work towards developing hydro and thermal power stations with the possibility of technology transfer.

In the evening, Hon. Minister interacted with Indian and US Media. At the Consulate General of India he addressed an audience of about 50 high-level professionals from companies ranging from power sector companies such as AES, Con Edison, NYISO, to banks, such as UBS, Morgan Stanley, as well as hedge fund and Capital Management companies. He also engaged in an in-depth and extended Q&A Session with the audience present and underlined his commitment to make sure that their suggestions were taken on board before the General Elections in 2014.

Hon. Minister is expected to meet Government officials from the US in Washington DC on July 2, 2013.
